Proposals Green-lit For COVID-19 Fund

Proposals Green-lit For COVID-19 Fund”

Ontario needs to expand COVID-19 testing to include more categories of workers, random and asymptomatic members of the public and anyone who works with children such as child care workers and teachers, Premier Doug Ford says.

"I will be like an 800 pound gorilla on their backs if I have to get testing up".

Complete information on the COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund can be found on the province's official website.

But despite the lack of a prohibition of entering someone else's home, Williams has still not moved forward with official guidelines around household-to-household contact, known as bubbles, that have been introduced in other provinces like Nova Scotia.

In Ontario, 4,178 health-care workers have become infected with COVID-19.

Many of Ontario's research hospitals, universities, colleges and research institutes are leading Canada with their ground-breaking COVID-19 research projects. The researchers then looked at the different outcomes from provincewide lockdowns used to control the spread of the disease versus more locally specific lockdowns - letting Sudbury and London stay open, for example, even if Toronto and Ottawa need to be locked down again.

Ontario had 961 people in hospital with COVID-19, with 153 seriously ill in intensive care and 120 of them on ventilators.

Speaking alongside Ford at Thursday's news conference, Minister of Health Christine Elliott responded to this increase, saying that officials are "looking at where the new cases are coming from".

"Although we don't fully understand their role in transmission, it is an added layer of protection", Dr. Tam said.

But in places like Toronto, which can see upwards of 200 cases a day, it's harder to track down all the sources of infection, Williams said.

A graph included in the province's daily update shows an increase in percent positivity, which is the percentage of all tests processed that indicate a positive result. That number is up compared to 7,382 tests conducted on Tuesday and 5,813 tests conducted on Monday, but down significantly compared to the province's goal set out earlier in the pandemic - hitting 20,000 tests per day.

"How do we know how many asymptotic people are out there right now?" Public Health Ontario reports 2,021 people have died as a result of the virus.

"Let's start getting out there and testing everyone possible", Ford said Thursday, encouraging people with mild symptoms to get checked at assessment centers that previously rejected them. "We will reopen childcare with strict health protocols to keep our youngest learners safe".
