Sourav Ganguly Great Fit To Be ICC President: Graeme Smith

Sourav Ganguly Great Fit To Be ICC President: Graeme Smith”

Submit-COVID, cricket will want highly effective management, and it's time for somebody comparable to the trendy sport with management credentials to get into the place. That will be good for the game. Sourav Ganguly made immediate impact after taking over as the president of Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI) past year with some key decisions.

With the incumbent chairman Shashank Manohar's term nearing the end, Ganguly is one of the top contenders for the post.

"Now it is even more important to have someone in a role who can provide leadership who understands and can navigate the challenges in the game today", Smith said in a CSA video press conference on Thursday. Ganguly was elected BCCI president last October, but his tenure technically ends in July after which he would need to undergo a three-year cooling off period.

Smith said he believed Ganguly, a fellow former Test captain and current Indian board president, was the right person to lead the game at a time of crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Will Ganguly throw his hat in for ICC chairman’s post

Has Graeme Smith jumped the gun on Sourav Ganguly or has Cricket South Africa (CSA) developed cold feet on backing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president for the post of chairman at the International Cricket Council (ICC)? CSA Director of Cricket Graeme Smith expressed his support for the former India skipper and his comments were also backed by CSA CEO Jacques Faul. "That is going to be an interesting time for global and it is going to be a great appointment", Smith said on Thursday during an online conference with journalists. It was a stunning display of cricket from both the legendary cricketers.

"We've always worked closely with India and I think India must play a leadership role when it comes to the FTP (Future Tours Programme) and a responsible one", said Faul. Our engagement with Sourav has been very positive in his willingness to help us.

"We have checked with the leadership of CSA on if we would support an Indian candidate (as the ICC chief) and and at this stage, we would". But we have also got to maybe look at the integrity of the whole process. "There have been no candidates nominated as yet and once such nominations have been made the Board of CSA will take its decision in terms of its own protocol and give the chairman the mandate to exercise his vote as an ICC Board Director accordingly", CSA President and Chairman of the Board, Chris Nenzani said in an official release.
