Dwight Powers, 72, was participating in an e-meeting via the Zoom video chat platform at approximately noon on Thursday when his son, Thomas Scully-Powers, emerged and began beating him, police in Long Island's Suffolk County said. "They were all concerned about their friend".

The police said they found Powers stabbed to death in his home, killed by his son.

Police are investigating a killing that happened during a Zoom chat Thursday in NY. He said witnesses recounted watching Powers fall and hearing heavy breathing over the call.

Chat members saw Powers slump over and his naked son in the background, authorities said.

A 32-year-old NY man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his father to death during a Zoom conference call, local officials say.

Scully-Powers allegedly jumped out of the second-story window.

Scully-Powers was arrested and is to be charged with second-degree murder, Suffolk County Police said. WABC reported that Scully-Powers answered the door, before slamming it closed and running upstairs.

Scully-Powers ran from the scene but was apprehended by police about a mile away.

Police say a number of people at the virtual gathering quickly called 911, but the response by officials was delayed when nobody could identify where Powers lived.
