Ryan Gosling is set to bring back a classic Universal horror monster

Ryan Gosling is set to bring back a classic Universal horror monster”

The Wolfman didn't get very far into development during Universal Pictures' Dark Universe phase.

After this year's smash hit of Leigh Whannell's The Invisible Man, Universal is looking to go full steam ahead on a reboot of its iconic Wolfman franchise with Ryan Gosling (The Nice Guys) now being eyed to star and the search for a director narrowing down, according to Variety.

The new film comes following the studio's success with Elizabeth Moss' The Invisible Man.

Moreover, it is reported that Gosling was the individual to pitch the concept for the movie. However, the actual script was written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. No director is attached yet but among the people in the mix is reportedly Cory Finley, director of HBO's Bad Education, which starred Van Helsing himself, Hugh Jackman.

Back in 1941, Lon Chaney Jr. headlined The Wolf Man for Universal and kicked off the franchise.

The last werewolf pic at Universal, 2010's The Wolfman, had Benicio del Toro in the title role starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving. No director or producer has been selected for the project just yet, which is a concern that came after Gosling was previously considered as a candidate for being both star and helmer of the project.

At this moment, no director has been chosen to lead the film, but Universal is considering numerous options. This affiliate advertising program also provides a means to earn fees by linking to and affiliated sites.
