NASA Astronauts Successfully Dock SpaceX Crew Dragon at ISS

NASA Astronauts Successfully Dock SpaceX Crew Dragon at ISS”

The crew dragon spacecraft carried Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken on a ride to the International Space Station. It marked the first time that American astronauts were launched into space from US soil since 2011.

Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken spoke with mission control from the ISS on Monday after what they stated was a surprisingly smooth docking.

They quickly claimed the prize left behind at the International Space Station almost a decade ago by the last crew to launch from the U.S.

Behnken said one of the first things he did upon reaching the orbiting lab was call his 6-year-old son, Theo, to hear what is was like to watch his father blast into space "and share that a little bit with him while it was still fresh in his mind". NASA and SpaceX have not revealed many details about the new waste removal system, but Hurley said "it works very similar to the one we were used to in the space shuttle, and it worked very well".

Boeing, which is producing its personal launch system in competitors with SpaceX, is anticipated to fly its CST-100 Starliner automobile with astronauts aboard for the primary time subsequent yr. NASA has awarded nearly $eight billion (roughly Rs. 60, 228 crores) mixed to SpaceX and Boeing for improvement of their rival rockets. "We had a good night's sleep last night" said Behnken during an event upon arrival at the ISS.

NASA astronauts Douglas Hurley and Robert Behnken head to launch pad 39 to board a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket for a second launch attempt on NASA?s SpaceX Demo-2 mission to the International Space Station from NASA?s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, U.S. May 30, 2020. "I realized that inside that spacecraft were two of my colleagues and friends, and they're going 17,500 miles an hour, and we're going 17,500 miles an hour, and we are bringing these two vehicles together with a computer and them backing it up".

The time the docking took place was about 10:29AM ET. According to the astronaut, the Crew Dragon capsule docked with the ISS so smoothly that they didn't feel it happening. He came to be an astronaut with NASA in 2000 and has actually finished 2 spaceflights. The astronauts said that it performed well during the mission.

Endeavour in the shadow of the ISS. The space capsule also has four massive capsule which will bring them safely to the Atlantic Ocean where they will be retrieved by SpaceX ship. During their ISS stay, the astronauts will run tests on the capsule, ensuring it is capable of future missions that may see it connected to the station for up to 210 days. When the time comes for Behnken and Hurley to return home, all eyes will be on the Crew Dragon's performance once again.
