Band-Aid recognizes diverse skin with more inclusive bandages

Band-Aid recognizes diverse skin with more inclusive bandages”

In an Instagram post, the company said the different colour bandages will "embrace the beauty of diverse skin".

"We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, collaborators and community", it wrote.

Band-Aid has announced it will make black and brown coloured bandages as part of its "fight against racism, violence and injustice".

"We now sell BAND-AID brand Clear Strips Adhesive Bandages, which were created to be used by people with a variety of skin tones".

In 2005, the company unveiled its Perfect Blend brand, which included a bandage line created to match multiracial skin tones.

As "Black Lives Matter" protest against racism continues to gain momentum in the United States and around the world, a US-based company, in solidarity, has come up with adhesive bandages in diverse skin colours.

Starbucks, Walmart, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple and Bank of America are among the many brands that have either changed their business practices or declared support for the Black Lives Matter movement over the last three weeks. We promise that this is just the first among many steps together in the fight against systemic racism.

Petitions have previously been made to get the brand to produce Band-Aids that represent a broader range of skin tones.

Band-Aid, however, did release a variety of skin-toned bandages back in 2005.

Band-Aid, which has been around for a century, has been criticized over the years for failing to offer bandages that do match the tones of black and brown skin.
