Meet Katy Lueders, NASA's First Female Director of Human Spaceflight

Meet Katy Lueders, NASA's First Female Director of Human Spaceflight”

Since 2014, Lueders has directed NASAs efforts to send astronauts to space on private spacecraft, which culminated in the successful launch of Demo-2 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on May 30.

Lueders also previously worked on NASA'S Commercial Cargo program, which has led to the long and successful relationship between SpaceX and the agency to fly regular cargo supply missions using Dragon and SpaceX's Falcon 9.

The current schedule of Nasa, as determined by the administration of president Donald Trump, is to land two astronauts, including a woman, on the Moon in 2024, thanks to the rocket heavy SLS and the Orion capsule.

Officially, Lueders will now be Associate Administrator of the Human Exploration and Operations (HEO) Mission Directorate.

Lueders began her NASA career in 1992 at the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico.

"She has a deep interest in developing commercial markets in space, dating back to her initial work on the space shuttle program", Bridenstine said in the statement. She then moved to the International Space Station Program as transportation integration manager. "From Commercial Cargo and now Commercial Crew, she has safely and successfully helped push to expand our nation's industrial base", said Bridenstine.

Shortly after Crew Dragon successfully launched with astronauts on board, SpaceX chief Elon Musk launched a playful jab to Russian Federation during a press conference.

On 2 June, Adhir Saiyadh - a HAM radio enthusiast from Ahmedabad claimed that he got a response from SpaceX Crew Dragon's astronauts while trying to connect with the International Space Station (ISS).

The Quint reports: U.S. space agency NASA has denied an Ahmedabad-based HAM radio enthusiast's claim that its crew aboard spacecraft Crew Dragon spoke with him earlier this month. We still need to bring Doug and Bob home safely, and we're not going to lose focus. SpaceX utterly embarrassed Boeing by beating them to the punch and delivering Crew Dragon to NASA well ahead of Boeing's own Starliner.
