Spike Lee Apologizes For Recent Comments Regarding Woody Allen”

The "Do The Right Thing" director took to Twitter to walk back his defense of Allen, who has been accused of molesting his daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was 7 years old.

Ah yes, the classic Hollywood pitfall: defending Woody Allen! But in a recent Tweet, Lee apologized for appearing to have dismissed the allegations against Allen of sexual assault. "Such treatment causes real damage that can't be minimized".

No actual abuse was ever proven, but Allen's name has forever been tarnished. Allen's most recent film, A Rainy Day in NY, was dropped from distribution by the studio and numerous cast donated their earnings to charity. Even his autobiography, which was canceled by the Hatchette Book Group after a company walkout, was eventually published by Arcade Publishing in March. American stars Gina Gershon and Wallace Shawn have already defended working on the movie, with Gershon telling reporters previous year the script was a "dream come true" for her. IndieWire spoke with Lee about the film, and its timeliness in the current political moment, in a wide-ranging interview published Saturday.
