Band-Aid announces new bandages 'that embrace the beauty of diverse skin'”

Earlier this week, the popular adhesive bandage brand announced that, in light of current racial injustices around the world, they will unveil a new series of bandages that reflect all different skin tones, while supporting the movement # BlackLivesMatter.

⁣"We are committed to launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin", they continued.

These new Band-Aids come in five skin tones and will be available in the USA sometime in the future, company spokesperson Katherine Lal told Daily Hive.

In the midst of the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests in the United States, Johnson & Johnson-owned Band-Aid has announced that it would soon roll out diverse colours of bandages to cater to more diverse skin tones.

While the change was long due, we believe that this is still a welcome change.

The news was largely met with support on social media, with most applauding the company for finally catering to all of its customers. While the step offended many, others thought it was rather trivial.

The brand has previously received criticism over its lack of representation for people of color since the product was first created in 1921, and has sold a pink "flesh" color for almost a century, according to the company's website. Tru-Colour Bandages and Browndages launched back in 2014 and 2018, respectively, for this very reason.

The company didn't say when the new Band-Aids would hit the shelves.

Band-Aid has not yet confirmed when the new range would be available. No response has been received by time of publication.
