Annular solar eclipse on June 21 to be visible in India

Annular solar eclipse on June 21 to be visible in India”

He went on to elucidate the various types of solar eclipses such as total, annular, partial and hybrid. When it's a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon, however, in partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured. "Sri Lankans will not have the opportunity to observe a solar eclipse in another two years as the next solar eclipse due is on October 22, 2022", Prof Jayaratne said. This workshop was conducted with the aim to use the knowledge of astronomy to understand the upcoming solar eclipse on June 21.

In Gwadar, the maximum magnitude of the eclipse will be 97.8, which will begin at 09:20 PST, reaches to maximum at 10:48 and will end at 12:32 PST. This one will also darken the skies more than most annular eclipses, and the "ring of fire" that appears could possibly even allow a glimpse of the corona-the white-hot atmosphere surrounding the sun, which is normally invisible to the eye. Calcutta was tipped to see a partial eclipse but an overcast sky had hampered visibility.

The last solar eclipse seen in Vietnam was an annular eclipse on December 26 past year. "The sunlight and solar eclipse will be its natural remedy for this virus", Krishan added. "For Jaffna, the partial eclipse begins at 10.24 a.m., the greatest eclipse will occur at 11.54 a.m. and the end at 1.30 p.m.", he explained.

This, however, will not be the first solar eclipse to take place in 2020. After the 2 hours and 11 eleven minutes the eclipse will be over. The moon's penumbral shadow produces a partial eclipse, visible in the region covering Africa (except W. and S. parts) S. E. Europe, Asia (except N. and E. Russia) and northern parts of Australia.

The second eclipse, one that will completely blot out the Sun, will mostly unfold over the Pacific Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere. Instead, eye protection or indirect viewing techniques should be used.

Experts had warned people not to look directly at the sun without any protective eye apparatus as it could damage eyesight.
