New Nissan X-Trail: fourth-gen model fully revealed (as the Rogue)…”

Nissan has unwrapped its new Rogue in North America, effectively giving us our first look at the fourth-generation X-Trail. Slit-like running lights sit directly beneath the hood, the Rogue's headlamps midway down the grille.

As mentioned, a 135kW/245Nm 2.5-litre petrol engine will be available (up 9kW/19Nm), driving either the front or all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

"I think nothing spurs sales and attention like brand-new product, especially when it comes in such an appealing package and in a segment that is so very strong even globally, one of the most important segments in the world, so it will fit in perfectly for us here in Australia", Mr Lester said. It also allows the rear doors to swing open to almost 90 degrees for easier access. As you'd expect of a family vehicle, there are plenty of storage nooks and a fair number of USB ports, front and back -including new USB-C connectors.

The 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been upgraded to a 9.0-inch screen with Nissan's latest multimedia interface which allows for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility (wireless for the former), Google Assistant and hands-free text messaging assistant.

The ProPilot system has also been tweaked for better steering assist feel, smoother braking and better radar detection abilities. And with the ProPilot Assist with Navigation system, the car's active cruise control grows smart enough to handle highway exits and interchanges without having to touch the brakes or disengaging the system.

The all-new Rogue is roughly the same size as the outgoing model, but features a roomier interior and a boxier shape with fresh styling that was previewed by the Xmotion concept of 2018.

Along with the all-new second-generation Juke that arrives in showrooms this week, the X-Trail is one of multiple Nissan models to be updated or overhauled in the next 12 to 18 months.

Nissan's engineers added three-dimensional tire deflectors to the lower front fascia of the Rogue in order to push more air away from the tire chop in forward motion. Considering what we're seeing from competitors, such as Toyota, perhaps a more powerful hybrid could come later, some analysts continue to believe. Pricing has yet to be released, but considering the range-topping 2020 Nissan Rogue cost around $33,000, it shouldn't be a huge departure from that-or so we hope.

The teaser video that was recently uploaded by the manufacturer is called '#NissanNext A to Z' and other than the Rogue, it even teases models like the upcoming Z vehicle that could be called 400Z and the India-bound Magnite sub-4-metre compact SUV that will rival models like the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Hyundai Venue. And the automaker clearly needs to revitalize demand considering sales of the Rogue dipped from 412,000 in 2018 to 350,000 previous year. Nissan has been struggling to reverse a broader decline in sales and earnings, so the launch of the all-new Rogue will be a critical step in turning things around.
