Solar eclipse next week to be visible in Vietnam

Solar eclipse next week to be visible in Vietnam”

A scientist in Chennai has claimed that there is a connection of COVID-19 outbreak with December 26 solar eclipse that happened a year ago. There are four types of the solar eclipse - Total, Partial, Annular and Hybrid.

For the unversed, NASA defines this eclipse as, a phenomenon that happens when the moon is farthest from Earth.

Generally, the solar eclipses occur when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth so that the Sun is fully or partially covered. The maximum eclipse will be at 12:10 pm.

On June 21, the annular eclipse will first start for the people of Congo in Africa and progress through South Sudan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the Indian Ocean and Pakistan, before entering India over Rajasthan.

The Met department said that the eclipse will start at 8:40am and would end at 2:34pm across the country. It'll, however, be seen as partial solar eclipse from the rest part of India for over 3 minutes on that day. The prominent places within this narrow annularity path are Dehradun, Kurukshetra, Chamoli, Joshimath, Sirsa and Suratgarh. He believes that the sunlight and the solar eclipse will be a natural remedy for the virus.

In India, the obscuration of the sun by the moon at the time of greatest phase of the annular eclipse will be almost 98.6 per cent. Obscuration of the sun by the moon at the time of greatest phase of partial eclipse will be around 94 percent in Delhi, 80 percent in Guwahati, 78 percent in Patna, 75 percent in Silchar, 66 percent in Kolkata, 62 percent in Mumbai, 37 percent in Bangalore, 34 percent in Chennai, 28 percent in Port Blair etc. As a result a ring of the Sun's disk remains visible around the Moon. It will cause permanent damage to the eyes leading to blindness even when the moon covers most portion of the Sun. The radiation would be much more direct than it was during the last solar eclipse that occurred earlier.

Scientists have sounded the usual warning: sky watchers should only see the eclipse indirectly or with proper glasses to prevent retinal burns.
