Affordable Galaxy Fold Lite might launch next year with $900 price tag

Affordable Galaxy Fold Lite might launch next year with $900 price tag”

South Korea-based device maker Samsung is reportedly working on a new Galaxy S20 variant, which will sit at the bottom of the currently-available Galaxy S20 series premium lineup.

According to them, Samsung was looking to release the Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite alongside the Fold 2 for only 1 million Won (around $900), but have chose to postpone it till early next year. Alternatively, Samsung could simply launch the smartphone as Galaxy S20 Lite.

The update first hit the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 series before arriving on the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 duo. Considering this ideology behind the lineup, a Galaxy Fold Lite makes sense since foldable smartphones now come with some heavy pricing. To recall, the Galaxy Fold comes with a price tag of $1980 while Z Flip starts from $970.

As per the recent report, the Galaxy Fold Lite will launch next year with a price tag of $900. That might mean that we get either a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus or a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but not both. The report further claims that the device was initially planned for August 5 but is now postponed to 2021.

Of course, $900 is still very much flagship territory, and buyers will still have to choose between getting the best conventional phone or a somewhat subpar but folding phone. If there was any device that needed a more affordable variant, it would be the $1,980 Galaxy Fold.

Samsung is likely to launch two new foldable smartphones in the second half of the year, with an affordable foldable handset model likely to come out next year, industry sources said Sunday. If that happens, the device will end up creating yet another controversy for the brand.
