Anthony Mackie Criticizes Marvel For Lack Of Diversity Behind The Camera

Anthony Mackie Criticizes Marvel For Lack Of Diversity Behind The Camera”

The actor will soon be seen in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and is being lined up as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's next Captain America. While Mackie has seen Marvel plant the seeds of diversity on screen, he expressed his displeasure with how the crew for most of the Marvel movies he's worked on have been predominantly white.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was due to be the big Disney Plus release of this summer, with a tentative August release date set back in February.

The notable exception was Black Panther.

About Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther movie, the Avengers: Endgame actor said, "But then when you do 'Black Panther, ' you have a Black director, Black producer, you have a Black costume designer, you have a Black stunt choreographer".

"We've had one Black producer; his name was Nate Moore", Anthony added. "And I'm like, that's more racist than anything else".

He also addressed the budget, saying it wasn't seemingly unlimited like they feel the movies have, although reports have said that the Disney+ shows have a much higher budget than normal series; something more along the lines of Game of Thrones than normal TV.

Mackie then concluded by declaring, "Hire the best person for the job". Fine. I'm cool with those numbers for the next 10 years. When "Snowpiercer" came out, you're the lead. Because it starts to build a new generation of people who can put something on their résumé to get them other jobs.

Mackie said they needed to use their professional standing as leading men as they 'have the power and the ability to ask those questions'.

Mackie called for hiring changes going forward, something that both he and Diggs are able to push for given their leading men status. Variety, in an interview between Mackie and Daveed Diggs, cites the budget of the show as being $150 million.

We know the series will feature the Marvel character U.S.Agent, played by Wyatt Russell, and we expect the show will be about the fight for the Captain America mantle in the wake of Steve Rogers' retirement.
