Apple’s next iPhones will not come with a charger in the box

Apple’s next iPhones will not come with a charger in the box”

iPhone 12 leaks and rumours are hotting up - and while talk of 5G capability and triple-lens cameras are certainly whetting our appetite ahead of the expected September launch, not all the speculation is good news. Today, Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple will not include a power adapter in the iPhone 12 box. Apparently, Apple is hoping to increase AirPods sales with this move.

The base model that is the iPhone 12 will feature a 5.4-inch display that has a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and has a pixel density of 475 PPI, while the iPhone 12 Max will have a slightly bigger display - we're talking a 6.1-inch panel with 2532 x 1170 pixels resolution and 460 PPI density. However, the lack of a power adapter comes as more of a shock (no pun intended). Removing EarPods and the power adapter is likely done to achieve this price bracket. If correct, it means the only accessory included with iPhone 12 models is a Lightning to USB cable.

His words match a prediction by Barclays' team of analysts, who also said that all models of the iPhone 12 will omit the charging plug.

Shipping a product without a charger including isn't a new concept by any means (Nintendo did the same with its New Nintendo 3DS), but if you purchase an 18W USB-C Power Adapter and pair of EarPods from the Apple store, it will set you back $63.15 (£58). Kuo's note corroborates that information, making it much more likely to be accurate.

However, according to previous reports, the 8.5-inch iPad variant, according to Kuo, will be a follow up of Apple's iPad Mini. It does seem weird to not include a power adapter in the box with a phone. Let's see how Apple tries to justify this change.
