Disney Developing Female-Fronted ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’

Disney Developing Female-Fronted ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’”

Apparently, the project is "a wholly original story with new characters under the Pirates moniker", and is not being developed as a spinoff of the block-busting franchise featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Margot Robbie has enjoyed quite a bit of success in the acting industry over the years and continues to shine in whatever role she is given.

The film from the Birds of Prey team is also set to be a different project from the long-in-development sixth film of the Sparrow-focused franchise, which has seen a number of directors and writers come and go, now seeing Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and franchise co-creator Ted Elliott penning the current draft. The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise films which were backed by Jerry Bruckheimer will be making his return for the reboot film.

Margot Robbie To Re-Team With BIRDS OF PREY Writer For New PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Movie

A female-fronted Pirates of the Caribbean is in the works. The writer has credits on Bumblebee, The Flash, which could see Michael Keaton reprise his role as Batman, and Birds of Prey.

Meanwhile, along with their collaboration on Birds of Prey, Robbie and Hodson recently launched the Lucky Exports Pitch Program, which is an initiative aimed at getting more female-identifying writers hired by studios to write action-centric movies. She certainly has the capabilities of bringing quite an exciting story to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and in partnership with Robbie, the pair promise a boatload of fun. It's hard to say whether both projects will ultimately move into production or just one.
