Ten players dropped from Pakistan's England tour over Covid-19

Ten players dropped from Pakistan's England tour over Covid-19”

When the PCB agreed to the tour, they had announced a strict testing policy which meant that only players who twice tested negative for coronavirus would board the plane to England.

Twenty Pakistan players and 11 support staff have arrived in England ahead of this summer's tour.

Amongst the four reserves players, who were tested on Wednesday, only Imran Butt has tested positive, while the tests of Bilal Asif, Mohammad Nawaz and Musa Khan were negative.

PCB CEO Wasim Khan said: "With the Test series being played first in August, [head coach] Misbah [ul-Haq] is satisfied with the group of players that are traveling on Sunday as the focus will be on red-ball preparation". While their results came negative, as per the PCB testing programme, they are deemed to have one negative test following a positive test.

Ten players from Pakistan's squad will not travel to England for the upcoming series after testing positive for coronavirus for a second time, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Saturday.

"Misbah understands that flexibility and adaptability will be needed with his training and practice schedule while operating under various guideline", Wasim Khan said.

"Therefore, once they are retested and receive a second negative result under the PCB testing programme, they will be available to join the squad in England". "Players are likely to be tested five to seven times before the first Test in England and that is to be done for their safety", he said.

"Now, the tests are done, my advice to Hafeez was to go for the retest, but he should not have posted the result of his second Test on Twitter, he should have confronted the PCB, you should not get on bad terms with the board".

Six players - Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan and Wahab Riaz - have done so once and will be tested again next week with a view to joining their team-mates.

The PCB originally had picked a 29-member playing squad for the England tour.

The chief executive said upon arrival in Manchester, the squad will be transported to Worcestershire where they will undergo the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) testing before embarking on a 14-day isolation, during which they will be allowed to train. Spinner Zafar Gohar, who is already in the United Kingdom, will join the squad but only for pre-series preparations.

England are now slated to face West Indies in the three-match Test series starting July 8 at the Ageas Bowl.
