United Kingdom police charge 'terror' park stabbing suspect”

A man has been charged with stabbing to death three men in a Reading park.

United Kingdom counter-terrorism police have charged a 25-year-old man with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder for a stabbing attack in an English park that killed three men a week ago.

Wearing a gray prison-issue tracksuit and a blue face mask, Khairi Saadallah on Monday spoke only to confirm his name, birth date and address before London's Westminster Magistrates' Court by video link from a courtroom in Coventry, central England.

Three people died at the scene in Forbury Gardens and a further three people were taken to hospital.

Reading Borough Council is due to hold a vigil at 7pm in memory of the friends, marking a week since the deadly attack. British Home Secretary Priti Patel was among those who attended the service.

The co-headteachers of the Holt School where Mr Furlong taught also lit candles, while the public stood watched the vigil from the back of Market Place. Each died from a single stab wound.

Three other victims sustained stab injuries.

Furlong's grieving family praised police in a tribute to officers on Saturday.

Saadallah is also charged with attempting to murder their friend Stephen Young as well as Patrick Edwards and Nishit Nisudan, who were sat in the the nearby group.

Police declared the stabbings as a terrorist incident the day after the attack, but they have not said what they think the motive was and noted the investigating is ongoing.

"James was passionate about creating a more loving and caring society".

Reading Borough Council reassured those affected by the attack that they will hold in-person remembrance events in the future when social distancing allows.

Council leader Jason Brock said: "There is an overwhelming sense of grief within the Reading community about last Saturday's tragic events".

"The charges come following an investigation into an incident at Forbury Gardens in Reading on the evening of June 20, where a number of people were stabbed", Thames Valley police said in a statement.

"You know, we still can't believe that this has happened quite, this is the kind of thing that happens in other places, not in our own town and so I think we're all really still reeling from it".
