Trump pushes racial division, flouts virus rules at Rushmore

Trump pushes racial division, flouts virus rules at Rushmore”

Dozens of protesters faced off with the National Guard and police officers in Keystone, South Dakota on Friday after crowds blocked off a road leading to Mount Rushmore ahead of President Donald Trump's arrival.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a Trump campaign official and Donald Trump Jr.'s girlfriend, has tested positive for COVID-19.

It's expected Trump will speak about protesters who he claims are trying to "tear down" the USA, according to a Trump campaign official.

The virus has even reached Trump's inner circle.

Speaking underneath a famed landmark that depicts four USA presidents, Trump warned that the demonstrations over racial inequality in American society threatened the foundations of the US political system.

What Trump is saying: Trump said a "left-wing cultural revolution is created to overthrow the American Revolution". "Our children are taught in school to hate their own country".

After several hours, the road was cleared and 15 protesters arrested.

The president signed an executive order in late June reinforcing an existing law that protects federal monuments.

"Despite cease and desist directives to Donald Trump in the past, the Rolling Stones are taking further steps to exclude him using their songs at any of his future political campaigning", a spokesman said last month.

Mr Trump has opposed proposals to rename United States military bases that are named after Confederate generals and vowed harsh punishment for people who damage statues. Trump's public approval is faltering heading toward the November elections, and he made an appeal to his base at Friday's spectacle, per The Washington Post.

A crowd of several thousand people greeted Trump for the speech, ignoring the risk of coronavirus spread.

Trump trails presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in opinion polls in key states and is eager to boost his campaign through a tough response to social unrest.

"There is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance. Then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished".

The couple was scheduled to attend the fireworks event at Mount Rushmore on July 3 with the president.

Mr Trump advocated for a resumption of the display, and the state says the surrounding Black Hills National Forest has "gained strength" since then and that fireworks technology has advanced.

"They think the American people are soft and weak and submissive. And that which god has given us, we will allow no one ever to take away ever", Trump said, before firing off salvos at the left-wing demonstrators around the country.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

Harold Frazier, chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe, said in a statement on Friday that the sculpture on Mount Rushmore is an insult to Native Americans.

Two of the four faces carved into Mount Rushmore - George Washington and Thomas Jefferson - were also slave owners.
