Massive asteroid approaching Earth on July 24, says NASA”

According to the information collected by the agency, the approaching asteroid is about to intersect Earth's orbit. The asteroid that has shaken up the Chelyabinsk city from Russian Federation back in 2013 wasn't detected by any of the Earth's sophisticated scientific tools, and that's a huge hint that humanity is not prepared for any risky space rock that wanders close enough to our planet. The asteroid is estimated to be of 120- 260m in diameter. The asteroid, about 170 metres-long, will be as close as 0.034 astronomical units (5,086,328 kilometres) to our planet, and is travelling at a speed of 48,000 kilometres per hour.

The space boffins in the United States have named it as Asteroid 2020 ND.

A huge asteroid is making its way toward Earth and it will pass by our planet next week.

"Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are now defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid's potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth", the NASA said on its website. The asteroid has also been classified under the Apollo asteroid group.

The least harmful of the lot is the 2020 ME3 asteroid as it will move adjacent to the Earth at a distance of 0.03791 au which is more than 56 lakh kilometre.

Warning over its upcoming approach, Birmingham Live quoted the space agency as saying: "Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are now defined based on parameters that measure the asteroid's potential to make threatening close approaches to the Earth". 2010 FR is 270m large in diameter at its widest point, and has visibility value of 21.7.

The asteroid's Earth-intersecting orbit suggests that it has a slim chance of hitting Earth in the future. It is expected to safely fly past Earth on September 6.

As per the reports, the asteroid which will fly past in the next four days is 50% bigger than the famous London Eye. This mammoth space rock will approach Earth at a distance of 4.3 million kilometres on November 29, and has designated H value of 19.3, which thankfully cuts it out from NASA-CNEOS' PHA classification list.

Further reports presents that, the rock will just come really close to the surface of the Earth and will not collide to the surface of the planet.

This is not the first time the asteroid is visiting Earth as it often orbits around the sun and comes close to both Earth and Mars every now and then.
