Christopher Nolan's Tenet 'eyeing late August European release'”

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to shake up theater releases, AT&T CEO John Stankey said he'd be very surprised if Tenet or Wonder Woman 1984 premiered on streaming services or as video on demand.

Director Christopher Nolan is a staunch supporter of movie theaters and has been adamant that his latest feature will debut theatrically.

During and earnings call Thursday, Stankey revealed that he loves the option to release movies on HBO Max, but that it won't be an avenue for big budget flicks. Sure", he said. "I think that could occur.

It has been reported that director Christopher Nolan's eagerly-awaited spy thriller Tenet could open in certain European countries at the end of August as part of a plan to kick-start the film's release away from the USA in the wake of the Covid-19 emergency.

Stankey's commitment to release "Tenet" in theaters is not unsurprising.

As you might expect, worldwide exhibitors are growing frustrated with what's happening in the US because while they're obviously sympathetic, they're being deprived of new movies despite cases in many European countries now being on the decline as the battle against the virus continues. This is the third time the film has been delayed due to spiking coronavirus cases in the U.S. AMC announced this morning that it planning to reopen its multiplexes beginning mid-to-late August instead of the previously announced date of July 30. When those guidelines were announced back on June 18, CEO Adam Aron told a rival trade outlet that he didn't want to enforce the wearing of masks at AMC theaters in those areas of the USA which had eased such restrictions, because he didn't want to make a political issue of it.
