MediaTek announces latest 5G chip”

This could, however, be the precursor to the launch of the rumored Dimensity 600-series that will bring 5G to more mid-range phones in the coming months. The new Dimensity 720 is part of MediaTek's 5G chipset family that also includes the Dimensity 1000 for flagship phones to the Dimensity 700 and 800 for more affordable devices.

The new chip uses a 7nm process that focuses on power-efficiency to provide "premium experiences for mid-range 5G smartphones".

It comes with flexible camera configuration options with support for up to 64MP or 20MP+16MP dual cameras. Moreover, the chipset can support LPDDR4x memory at frequencies up to 2133MHz and maximum capacities of 12GB.

The chipset also supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz networks and has been designed for global sub-6GHz 5G networks in Asia, North America and Europe.

All of which is to say, that when MediaTek announced its new Dimensity 720 smartphone processor with built-in 5G support this week, the most exciting thing about the chip is that it's not really all that exciting at all. The provider claimed the potato chip's 5G cable box relies upon MediaTek 5G UltraSave innovation, which "utilizes each system and also web content understanding cleverness to handle the cable box's operating method in real-time to prolong electric battery lifestyle".

MediaTek Dimensity 720 will house two top ARM Cortex-A76 cores that are capable of recording speed of 2GHz in the CPU's octa core arrangement. "All of that combined will help brands usher in differentiated 5G devices for consumers around the globe". Integrated Voice Wakeup (VoW) to minimize power consumption of always-on voice assistants, and dual mic noise suppression so voice assistants can hear users more clearly even in noisy environments.

It is not known as to when it will get in action, but the chipset is very likely in mass production and maybe powered in upcoming smartphones.
