NASA's Hubble sends stunning photos of Saturn rings at their brightest”

The picture, snapped on July 4, 2020, showcases summer time in Saturn's northern hemisphere and consists of the gasoline big's moons - Mimas on the correct, and Enceladus on the backside.

NASA and ESA's Hubble space telescope has snapped a new image of Saturn and its rings that gives a glimpse at the summer season in the planet's northern hemisphere. In Saturn's case, astronomers continue tracking shifting weather patterns and storms.

NASA has shared its latest breathtaking snap of Saturn taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, which shows the so-called planetary "lord of the rings" at the height of its summertime, some 839 million miles from Earth.

The atmospheric storms in Saturn come and go while the bands' colors tend to change each year.

The Hubble Telescope has detected a series of small atmospheric storms. Also, the bands on the planet's surface can slightly change colour every year but the bands in the northern hemisphere were the same as in Hubble's observations last year.

According to Michael Wong, a planetary scientist at the University of California, Berkeley who works on the team that took the portrait, Saturn appears bluer in winter because sunlight interacts with elements in the planet's atmosphere to produce a haze, causing the planet to look yellowish-brown. NASA said in a statement on Thursday, July 23, that the "multiple banded cloud activity" was increasingly radiated as the northern hemisphere endures the summer heat.

NASA thinks this may be due to increased sunlight that may change the atmospheric circulation or the amounts of produced photochemical haze, or perhaps the heat may have reduced the ice in the atmosphere.

"It's incredible that even over a few years, we're seeing seasonal changes on Saturn", said lead investigator Amy Simon of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The sharp Hubble imaging resolves the precisely etched concentric ring structure.

The rings of Saturn are mostly made of pieces of ice, with sizes ranging from tiny grains to giant boulders. "Just how and when the rings formed stays just one of our solar system's greatest mysteries", said NASA. However, other competing theories state that they may have formed during the age of our dinosaurs. "Many astronomers agree that there is no satisfactory theory that explains how rings could have formed within just the past few hundred million years".

"It's incredible that even over a few years, we're seeing seasonal changes on Saturn", Dr. Simon said.

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope captured a new photo of Saturn earlier this month. NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland operates the telescope.

The Hubble Space Telescope has been the culprit for many fantastic cosmic insights gathered, and they include black holes, galaxies, stars, and so on.
