Plex launches free ad-support live TV streaming with over 80 channels”

The service is attempting to relive the "glory days" of live TV.

The newly added linear channels include news like Reuters and Yahoo Finance; kids' shows like Toon Goggles; food, travel, and home and design programming like Tastemade; sports like fubo Sports Network; esports like IGN1; and LGBTQ+ channels like Revry.

In addition to these traditional channels with a variety of content, there are also channels dedicated to a single show or idea, such as The Bob Ross Channel and the Deal or No Deal channel. The free channels are generally much less familiar and more limited.

You can customize the guide to suit your tastes by selecting which channels appear, and how those channels are ordered in the guide. For those that do set up an antenna and tuner, Plex over-the-air TV provides free access to local channels and major networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CW, and PBS.

Streaming media platform Plex announced it is expanding into live TV with the addition of over 80 free live TV channels, most of which are available worldwide. All three features will now be present in the main Plex interface, but for now, they will remain separate entities. "We are excited to be part of Plex's new ad-supported video channel platform".

Recently, the company introduced a "watch together" feature that lets two or more Plex users select a movie or TV show from a private library and watch it, fully synced, regardless of where the users are located. If you want to check out the live TV selection, navigate to a new section called "Live TV On Plex" in the sidebar of the app.

Free Live TV streaming on Plex will be supported on Apple TV and iOS, as well as Android, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, the Plex Web App, and Roku. The Roku Channel also added live TV channels to its offering with numerous same channels.
