Safety officials move closer to allowing Boeing 737 Max fly

Safety officials move closer to allowing Boeing 737 Max fly”

The European regulator, which had planned to conduct test flights of the Boeing 737 MAX earlier this year, had to delay its plans due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Federal Aviation Administration is nearing a decision on the troubled Boeing 737 MAX, releasing a statement saying it will finalize an airworthiness directive "in the near future".

Final planning is underway for FAA's flights on evasion procedure and joint operations evaluation board review or proposed training for flight views is based on design changes and crew procedures.

After that, pilots must be re-trained on the 737 MAX for new protocols as well as "procedures to mitigate the safety issues identified during the investigations that followed the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines accidents", the FAA said.

The FAA said Tuesday that it will soon issue a proposed safety directive for the plane, but it gave no indication of when it will lift the order that grounded the plane in March 2019 after multiple deadly crashes. The FSB will issue a draft report for public comment addressing JOEB findings. All 737 Max aircraft around the world were grounded by global aviation authorities after the second of those crashes in March of 2019 and Boeing has been working on developing software fixes for the plane ever since.

Congressional committees are looking into FAA's certification of the Max. Separately, regulators from the US, Canada, Europe and Brazil will review proposed minimum pilot-training requirements.

FAA Administrator Steve Dickson was asked in a letter to share the outcome of the December 2019 survey that asked employees how they felt about a long-standing agency program called Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) that delegates some new airplane certification tasks to Boeing employees. Before the crashes, airlines had ordered close to 5,000 of Boeing's 737 Max jets.

The plane, which is Boeing's largest seller, suffered two fatal crashes that killed 346 people within less than five months.

"We will lift the grounding order only after FAA safety experts are satisfied that the aircraft meets certification standards".

Boeing spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the schedule for the jet's return to service will be determined by regulators.

On July 1st, FAA said it had completed three days of certification test flights on 737 Max automated flight control system.
