The Bills will play: NFL, NFLPA reach agreement on COVID-19 adjustments”

"We have worked collaboratively to develop a comprehensive set of protocols created to minimize risk for fans, players, and club and league personnel", commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

COVID testing, on days 1 and 4, quarantining and virtual meetings on all days. Training camps are to open Tuesday, though the Texans and Chiefs, who meet in the season opener September 10, have veterans scheduled to arrive this weekend for COVID-19 testing.

Days 16-20: Four practices with helmets and shells.

The NFL is aiming to finalize the deal with the league's players' union before Sunday, though neither party is setting a firm deadline to strike an agreement, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. There is a complex formula in the agreement by which some funds, from any unpaid player benefits or salaries guaranteed in players' contracts, could be recouped. If any games are missed, those players will receive the balance of their guarantee at a later date. According to various reports, including Mike Jones of USA TODAY.

While that number could ultimately change, the National Football League would like to spread out the impact of the revenue losses over three or so years, meaning the salary cap will sit at $175 million. The opt-out decision has to be made by August 3 and is irrevocable, but also comes with a stipend.

This is a different system compared to the one Major League Baseball is using, in which players who opt out forfeit their 2020 salary unless they are classified as high-risk.

Cut their roster to 80 immediately. Rosters reportedly remain at 90 players per team but will be reduced to 80 players by August 16.

Most notably, the agreement will allow for a 16-man practice squad (up from the previous number of 10).

That stipend will still be paid out if the season is canceled before roster cuts, though it will drop to $250,000 per player if that happens. The previous rules allowed teams to bring three players back after missing eight games.
