Agents on Standby in Seattle, 'Should They Be Required'”

The federal agents fired tear gas canisters at the protesters as they gathered at midnight, Reuters reported.

The protesters said they were hit with projectiles and lasers as the federal agents pushed them back up a block from the federal courthouse.

Meanwhile, dozens of protesters and journalists have also been injured in violent clashes with the police. Many local and state officials, as well as congressional lawmakers, claim the deployment of the federal forces has escalated the unrest in Oregon's largest city, saying that the decision was tantamount to federal overreach or a dictatorship.

Demonstrators are gathering in Vancouver Saturday afternoon as part of an global solidarity event that opposes the deployment of federal agents in Portland by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The criminals used metal spikes to attack the vehicles of federal law enforcement officers dispatched to Portland in the latest effort by violent protesters to damage federal property, according to a senior Trump administration official.

Durkan's office said the city is seeking clarification from the Department of Homeland Security.

"It's time Portland join other responsible cities around the country to hold criminals accountable and protect federal property and officers", he said.

About 11pm Friday local time, people began shaking a fence while other people shot fireworks over it. Police then "attempted to disperse the crowd using various munitions", the statement reads.

A federal judge on Friday denied the OR attorney general's request for a temporary restraining order against certain actions by federal authorities in Portland, saying the state lacked the legal standing to seek that relief. Friday night brought at least 4,000 people to downtown Portland, crowding around the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse.

As the crowd dispersed, someone was found stabbed nearby, Portland police said. "We are here" late Friday night, sharing a video of a group of men and women of guarding what appears to be a group of people in Portland. Federal agents had leaf blowers of their own to counteract.

The officers deploying to Portland are "highly trained", and many wear camouflage because that's their duty uniform on the southwest border, the DHS said.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum on Monday asked a federal judge to impose a temporary restraining order on the agents in Portland.

Cities reportedly planning to march in solidarity include Seattle, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and Minneapolis.

The protest, to demand justice for a black woman who was killed by police as she slept in her home, drew members of the black militia and a rival far-right militia, with the heavily armed groups facing off while separated by riot police.

The lawsuit specifically asked the judge to require federal officers to identify themselves and their agency before detaining any protesters, explain the basis for making any detentions or arrests and not arrest individuals without a warrant or probable cause.
