Body of professional poker player Susie Zhao found in MI park

Body of professional poker player Susie Zhao found in MI park”

Ms Zhao regularly played in poker tournaments in Los Angeles and Las Vegas winning as much as $73,000 (AU$104,000) in the 2012 World Series, but on June 9 she moved back to MI to live with her parents after reportedly having financial troubles.

Zhao, 33, was discovered in a "parking area" near Pontiac Lake Recreation Area just after 8 a.m. on July 13, according to a statement from the White Lake Township Police Department.

Susie Zhao's body was found burned earlier this month.

The cause of death is unknown.

There was no vehicle at the scene at the time, according to local station WDIV.

Three hours after seeing her mother Susie Zhao's badly burned body was found in a MI parking lot.

White Lake Township Police Department confirmed the body has been identified as Ms Zhao, adding that "the female subject" was "badly burned".

"Surprised, confused and saddened", said her former roommate Yuval Bronshtein. "It's hard to picture her having enemies", Bronshtein told the station.

According to Deadline, Zhao was one of only a handful of women to be featured on World Poker Tour, a tournament broadcasted on Fox Sports Net.

Detective Lieutenant Christopher Hild told WXYZ that the case could be connected to Zhao's travels in the poker circuit around the country, or could be the result of meeting someone in the area when she returned recently.

After news of Zhao's death broke, fellow poker player Clayton Fletcher took to Twitter, describing the news as "heartbreaking".

Her friends mentioned that while Ms Zhao kept details of her personal life private, she was well liked by people who knew her.

Investigators are asking that anyone who may have had contact with Zhao between July 11 and July 13 to contact authorities.

The FBI in MI is providing technical and other assistance to support the investigation at the request of the White Lake police.
