One person shot, killed during Black Lives Matter protest in Texas

There was a shooting death Saturday night amid a Black Lives Matter protest in Austin, Texas.

Foster, who Capochiano said was carrying a rifle, approached the vehicle and was shot by the driver. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Garrett Foster, whose mother, Sheila, spoke to Good Morning America on Sunday. She told the news outlet that Foster had attended a number of Black Lives Matter protests in the past and was allegedly shot when he was pushing his girlfriend in a wheelchair.

A witness told KUT that the suspect vehicle had nearly hit protesters before the incident.

Ratliff said a suspect has been detained in connection to the shooting and is cooperating with police. Several gunshots can then be heard ringing out, prompting protesters to scream, run away from the scene, and duck for cover.

Footage posted during a Facebook Live on Saturday showed the moment when several shots rang out as a group of about 100 people marched and chanted "fists up!" No other details from police or the EMS were immediately available.

"He pulls down his window and he fires three shots into the guy". The man inside the auto shot the victim. "And then rolls up his window and zooms off".

Austin police confirmed on their Twitter feed reports of a shooting just after 10 the area of Congress and 4th Street in downtown.
