Driver gunned down armed protester in Texas capital

Driver gunned down armed protester in Texas capital”

The driver sped away and may have been shot at by someone in the crowd. One man was fatally shot.

They found a man with a gunshot wound, who was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, Ratcliff said.

The crowd gathered Saturday for a Black Lives Matter protest, news outlets reported. However, it wasn't the police who shot him dead. It was one of the armed civilians Foster had believed wouldn't fight back.

Foster also said that "the people that hate us and want to say s**t to us are too big of p**sies to stop and do anything about it".

Austin Senior Police officer Katerina Ratcliff spoke on the incident during a press conference and revealed police were on-site when the shots were fired off.

A livestream from the Facebook account Hiram Gilberto captured the shooting, if only on audio. "He pulls down his window and he fires three shots into the guy".

Marchers had converged around the vehicle as a man shouts, "Everybody back up". Police officers and medics rushed to resuscitate Foster while numerous surrounding signs read, "F**k the Police". "They've been participating in these protests nearly every day for the past 50 days", Sheila Foster said.

Tributes were paid to Garrett Foster on social media, and by Sunday afternoon an online fundraiser had raised more than $67,000 (£52,400).

Foster's mother, Sheila, claims her son was pushing his fiancee in a wheelchair before the shooting. According to the New York Times, Foster "was not seeking out trouble", and was wheeling his paraplegic fiance through an intersection when he was shot, based on interviews with his family and fellow protesters.

However, video evidence shows that Foster was pointing his AK-47 at cars.

Austin police confirmed on their Twitter feed reports of a shooting just after 10 p.m.in the area of Congress and 4th Street in downtown.
