Garmin Web-Based Utilities Down After Suspected Attack”

Soon following the news broke, it was speculated that Garmin experienced been a sufferer of a ransomware assault.

Global Positioning System and wearables company Garmin Ltd. has suffered a suspected ransomware attack that has caused its services to be taken offline and manufacturing operations to be suspended.

"Garmin has no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payment or other personal information", the firm said in its FAQ.

Garmin has said very little about the incident and there is only a banner on the site that states that the company is now facing an outage that affects Garmin Connect,, their call centers etc. We are doing the job to solve this issue as rapidly as achievable and apologize for this inconvenience'.

Garmin employees have explained to BleepingComputer that the enterprise was struck down by the WastedLocker ransomware. As time goes on and with customers likely becoming more frustrated with the company, the desire to pay up and take back control will grow.

iThome also published a report on a Garmin internal memo earlier about a "virus" attack affecting the company's internal IT servers and databases that caused Garmin Taiwan factories to shut down production lines for two days (on July 24 and 25th). The publication further says that some customers lost access to older logs, hinting that a lot of mayhem may have been caused in Garmin's backend.

Some Garmin users mentioned the outage on social media, expressing some frustration about the service being down.

And pilots who use flyGarmin can not now download up-to-date aviation databases, which is a legal requirement.

Multiple sources in the cybersecurity community suggest that the cyberattack may have involved WastedLocker, one of the targeted ransomware gang, known as the Evil Corp or Dridex.

The attack has severely affected the company's systems, while all of its computers have been shut down to stop the spread of the ransomware, the reports said. "However, what we do know is every organization is susceptible to ransomware attacks". "97% of losses stem from socially-engineered attacks and over 90% are initiated by email", Lucy Security CEO Colin Bastable shared a comment with The Hacker News.

"So, do what you can to prepare and respond".

No, it's not just you.
