IPL 2020 to be held in UAE

IPL 2020 to be held in UAE”

IPL 2020 will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 19 with the final scheduled for November 8, chairman of the Indian Premier League, Brijesh Patel, told PTI on Friday. And luckily, things worked in their favour after ICC officially postponed the global event.

Earlier, reports had come in that IPL 2020 can start from September 26th.

An unnamed BCCI official said, "IPL in all likelihood will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the final will be held on November 8 (Sunday)".

While there was speculation that the IPL will start from September 26, the BCCI made a decision to advance it by a week in order to ensure that the Indian team's tour of Australia is not jeopardised.

"If it is a private league that approaches ICC for hiring ACU officers and they agree to cover the event, then the league organisers bear the costs", the senior official told PTI. The sabbatical would have ended in March this year during the IPL but the BCCI had to suspend the tournament in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. In addition, Patel further said that the eight IPL franchises - Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and the Royal Challengers Bangalore - will host their respective pre-tournament training camps in the UAE as well. "A delay would have sent the plans haywire", he added.

The franchises are likely to leave India within August 20 which will give them extra four weeks to prepare for IPL 2020. The Emirates Cricket Board also revealed that they are now working on the logistics part to ensure a smooth running of IPL 2020.
