Sonny Bill Williams heads 'home', but NRL destination is still unconfirmed

Despite interest from his hometown side, the New Zealand Warriors, Williams is expected to rejoin the Roosters and he said on social media late on Friday (July 24) that he was heading back "home".

Trent Robinson has all but confirmed Sonny Bill Williams will join the Roosters in the coming weeks.

"It's been a insane few days in our household", Williams, who is yet to officially sign with the Roosters, tweeted on Friday night.

'One minute we're settling the kids into schools over here, next minute we're travelling home.

"No matter what the next chapter holds as long as we have Allah in our hearts we'll be fine".

Sonny Bill Williams still needs clearance from Australia's Border Force to enter the country.

However his cause would be helped by the fact his wife is, while other players such as Luke Thompson at Canterbury have previously been given exemptions.

"None at all. The thing about the clubs at the moment is that we're all united, " V'landys said.

'He's a big brand and he'll certainly attract a lot of attention to our sport, ' V'landy's told 2GB on Friday morning.

"Because they are the ones who determine how much revenue we get from broadcasters".

However, fans of rival clubs are up-in-arms over how the Roosters' premiership rosters could even fit in another name like Williams and his sizeable price-tag.

It would mean that Williams has to undergo a 14-day quarantine period before he is allowed to participate in the final few games of the season.

What do Sonny Bill Williams, Shaun Lane, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Tautau Moga all have in common?

Along with the Roosters, the Warriors and the Canterbury Bulldogs are also interested in the New Zealand global, but it is understood Williams is only keen on returning to Bondi where he played 45 games between 2013-14. Given most players have more than one suitor when they are negotiating a new contract - and their value, therefore, works itself out - the issue League Central has faced with Williams does not arise often.

There are still some complications before Williams' signature is secured, however, with a rule barring players from holding simultaneous contracts with an NRL club and another franchise, meaning Williams would potentially have to terminate his reported two-year $10 million contract with the Wolfpack - as the NRL's loan arrangement does not apply to Super League clubs.

Both parties are in talks to get a short-term deal across the line for the former All Black and Kiwi, with August 3rd the signing deadline.
