Boris Johnson pauses England's coronavirus reopening

Boris Johnson pauses England's coronavirus reopening”

"Our assessment is that we should now squeeze that brake pedal", said Johnson at a press briefing.

Mr Jonhson also announced that face coverings will become enforceable by law in more places including museums, cinemas and places of worship from August 8.

Mr Johnson clarified that local authorities will be acting to close down premises and cancel events that are not following the guidelines, as well as ensuring face coverings are being worn in these settings.

However, he warned it was important to keep up "discipline and our focus". "We can not be complacent".

"However, we understand the reasons the government has made this decision, and remain ready to work with them to ensure supporters can safely return to stadiums when government advice allows".

Speaking at the briefing, he said: "All my happiest holiday memories are of holiday vacations here in the United Kingdom, bucket-and-spade jobs or whatever, and I thoroughly, thoroughly recommend it, and I'm sure that people will have a great time over the summer".

He said later: "Most people in this country are following the rules and doing their best to control the virus".

"We are very disappointed for those who were hoping to attend tomorrow's event and for all those who have worked so hard to make it possible for spectators to be present".

"We realise this will be a huge disappointment for fans who were excited to witness the magic of the Crucible over the next fortnight, and we feel the same ourselves", said WST Chairman Barry Hearn. They will have to wait at least another two weeks, he said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson slowed the easing of United Kingdom lockdown measures on Friday (July 31), warning the resurgence of coronavirus across the country must be stamped out.

"I have said our plan to reopen society and the economy is conditional. that we would not hesitate to put the brakes on if required".

"That is what is happening today, that is what the Prime Minister has just announced is actually by going in stages you can stop at certain points and say "actually this is a perfectly sensible thing to think about but looking at the data now this does not look like a sensible step to take at this point in time".
