Virgin Galactic unveils space tourism for the super rich”

The cabin will also include a large, circular mirror on the aft bulkhead which, by adding a tint to the reflective surface, allows astronauts to view themselves weightless while illuminated by the brightness of the Earth. The "Halo" surrounds to twelve large windows have soft extended edges, which allow astronauts to position themselves for 360-degree views.

Billionaire Richard Branson's space tourism firm Virgin Galactic revealed the interior of its centerpiece space plane on Tuesday, showing off a cabin with new custom seats and a "space mirror" in a virtual tour of what its passengers can expect to experience on flights to the edge of space.

The plans for the cabin include individually sized reclining seats with "G-Force management" and automated mood lighting.

"We have unbelievable seats that will be tailored to each person, and that move during the flight to maximize people's comfort", Virgin Galactic Chief Space Officer George Whitesides told Reuters, adding that passengers can unbuckle themselves at peak altitude to float around the cabin in zero-gravity conditions. "We work alongside several astronauts who tell us that space is deep black and Earth is extremely bright, giving us a natural light source on board".

Virgin Galactic also released an "augmented reality enabled" mobile app, showcasing the cabin design and spaceflight experience.

The seats were created using aluminum and carbon-fiber manufacturing techniques, and breathable fabric provided by Under Armour, which also developed the spacesuits that passengers will wear.

Highly detailed amenities to enhance the customer flight experience were shown in an online event revealing the cabin of the company's rocket plane, a type called SpaceShipTwo, which is undergoing testing in preparation for commercial service.

"The golden metallics resemble luminous desert sands, blues conjure celestial spaces and teals inspired by the ocean ground travelers back to Earth". And then that lighting will change as it goes up into space. Virgin Galactic said these will offer comfort and mobility during spaceflight.

George Whitesides, the chief space officer at Virgin Galactic, is as excited about the future as are the 600 customers who have already signed up.

The company has not announced a new timeline but is now accepting $1,000 refundable deposits to join its Spacefarer community, which will be given priority when new tickets become available.

The New Mexico based company is planning to send paying customers into space from Spaceport America in southern New Mexico in the near future.

"So we actually have 16 cameras in the in the cabin". "[The cabin] both facilitates your movement ... so you can get to any window or next to any person ... while not distracting you from the view. The cabin interior will be successful when the ... view of Earth from space is the star of the show, and the cabin is an nearly invisible but flawless supporting act".
