British Grand Prix: Hulkenberg to stand in for Perez at Silverstone”

On Friday, Perez posted a video to his social media channels explaining he had gone home to see his mother, who had been in hospital.

Nico Hulkenberg on Friday reflected on a "special, insane and wild" 24 hours that saw him make a dramatic overnight return to Formula One at the British Grand Prix.

The Covid-19 Code of Conduct, drawn up by the FIA, forced members of F1's travelling circus to stay within their so-called bubbles, consisting of three to four people, during the opening rounds in Austria and Hungary.

Gutierrez last raced in Formula One back in 2016 for Haas having spent the two previous seasons with Sauber. There are 13 confirmed races this season, with the plan of adding five further rounds and the campaign due to end in December in the Middle East.

Racing Point - which gets its engines from Mercedes - basically copied Mercedes' auto design from 2019 for the 2020 season and it's paid off. "And then I came back to Europe".

That's what we are going to work on through the night to try and get the best possible from the weekend.

'It is not a surprise he went back there, that is what he has done whilst he has been driving for us.

Asked for his impressions of Racing Point's much-debated 2020 auto, Hulkenberg replied: "You can see there's huge potential, the vehicle is massively fast". He arrived at Birmingham Airport at 7pm from Cologne in Germany on Thursday night before travelling down to Northamptonshire. He became the first Formula 1 driver to test positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and will miss the race as a result, and Szafnauer says the track and trace protocol saw those closest to Perez isolating despite returning negative test results. So late was the call-up, he even had to borrow a set of overalls from new Canadian team-mate Lance Stroll.

"A great effort by the team, I want to thank all the night shift guys for doing an fantastic job to get me into the auto quite comfortably".

Perez said the positive test was a hard thing to stomach given the competitiveness of Racing Point's 2020 auto.

Calling the positive test "one of the saddest days of my career", he said: "It just shows how vulnerable we all to this virus".

"Friends, I won't be able to be on the stream today, because I have to be ready for this weekend in Silverstone", he wrote.

"As we found out, it can get everybody, but then again it's got a good reaction to it to limit it, to spread anymore, so we just have to be responsible each of us". I hope to see you soon at a race track'.
