Fauci to testify before Congress as coronavirus cases surge in U.S.

Top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday resisted efforts by a staunch ally of President Donald Trump to turn his testimony about controlling the coronavirus pandemic into criticism of protests against racial injustice.

He said that meant when countries began to relax rules and open up their economies as spring turned to summer, virus cases soared in America, because the infection rates had not dropped to as low a level as seen in Europe. "I'm just asking should we try to limit the protesting?" "I'm not going to opine on limiting anything".

Perhaps ironically, during this same hearing where Scalise lamented the politicizing of a health care crisis, his Republican colleague Jim Jordan repeatedly tried to make USA chief immunologist Dr. Anthony Fauci voice his opinion on whether the government should limit or ban Black Lives Matter protests over coronavirus concerns as it did with businesses and large gatherings.

"You make all kinds of recommendations", Jordan said, taking aim at Fauci.

"So you're allowed to protest - millions of people on one day, in crowds, yelling, screaming - but you try to run your business, you get arrested?" "You could ask me as much as you want, and I'm not going to answer it".

Fauci, who says he has a "complicated" relationship with Trump, has rarely hesitated to air his disagreements with the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus.

After Donald Trump called reports of bounties on USA troops a "Russia hoax", Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, tells Lawrence O'Donnell intelligence "doesn't end up in the presidential daily brief if it's a hoax".

More news: One new COVID-19 death, 22 cases reported in Clark County

"Great job by Jim Jordan, and also some very good statements by Tony Fauci", Trump wrote on Twitter. However, the shutdown of the USA only worked for about 50 percent of the country.

President Trump responded on Twitter.

Why it matters: He was responding directly to a tweet from President Trump, who took to the platform during the hearing to repeat his claim that the US has reported the most cases in the world due to increased testing.

Further, according to the report, Dr Fauci believes that the US National Institutes of Health will be working with Indian counterparts in a bid to show that Indian research and development capacity is integrated along with the global effects in producing vaccines for the novel Coronavirus.

"Our massive testing capability, rather than being praised, is used by the Lamestream Media and their partner, the Do Nothing Radical Left Democrats, as a point of scorn", the president continued.

"We are seeing an increase in drug use disorder as well as suicide in adolescence individuals".
