Magic's Jonathan Isaac explains why he didn't kneel during anthem

Magic's Jonathan Isaac explains why he didn't kneel during anthem”

Orlando Magic forward Jonathan Isaac was the lone player to stand during the national anthem on Friday as his teammates and Brooklyn Nets players knelt to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

What will happen to Jonathan Isaac following his decision to stand? He wore his Magic jersey and not the Black Lives Matter T-shirt that other players have had on for the anthems so far in the NBA's season restart at Walt Disney World.

Because of the four-month delay in action this season amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Isaac has been able to recover in time to suit up for the Magic for the final weeks of the campaign. All players have voiced their opinion on BLM and kneeling during the anthem to make a statement.

"We are proud of the positive impact our players have made and join with them in the belief that sports can bring people together - bridging divides and promoting inclusion, equality, diversity and unity".

The DeVos family includes US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who is married to Richard DeVos Jr. - the son and namesake of the Amway co-founder. The NBA has a rule requiring players to stand for the anthem since 1981, but Commissioner Adam Silver said he wouldn't be enforcing it, allowing for peaceful demonstrations.

"I'm glad these guys are unified". 'If people don't kneel, they're not a bad person.

"It was just something I didn't feel went hand in hand with supporting Black lives - just the means to an end". And if guys are not comfortable kneeling and they want to stand, nobody has a problem with that. And part of it is, first off, is my thought that kneeling or wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt don't go hand in hand with supporting Black lives.

The anthem before the Jazz-Pelicans game was performed virtually by Louisiana native Jon Batiste, who played a rendition with a mix of piano and guitar. When asked about his decision postgame, he said he "absolutely" believes in the social justice movement. This was done so as to use the platform of the National Basketball Association to spread more awareness about the "Black Lives Matter" campaign.

The Nets will be without Kevin Durant (ruptured Achilles), Kyrie Irving (right shoulder), Spencer Dinwiddie (coronavirus), and DeAndre Jordan (coronavirus) in the National Basketball Association restart, and it was evident that had they played the outcome would have been different.
