Mercedes S-Class Teased With New E-Active Body Control”

Aside from the state-of-the-art MBUX infotainment system and an innovative heads-up display (we reported), the impending 7th-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class is getting the company's signature suspension design called E-Active Body Control. "These customers seek attractive and practical compact vehicles - and it is precisely these demands which the new T-Class fulfils", says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

The S-class was also one of the world's first self-driving cars, though the first model to be so capable, the 1995 S-class re-engineered by Ernst Dickmanns and his team at Bundeswehr University, was only a concept.

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be revealed in September with United Kingdom deliveries expected in early 2021. "With the T-class's new layout and design we achieve a fusion of functionality and desirability", says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler Group. Do you think Mercedes-Benz is making the right move with this new van? New class, new concept The private-customer market is the focus of the completely newly developed Mercedes-Benz T-Class.

Mercedes-Benz also mentioned that the new T-Class will be offered at an attractive price-value ratio, though we still have no estimate on how "attractive" that price tag will be. The wide-opening sliding doors on both the left and right-hand sides of the vehicle as an example allow easy and comfortable access to the interior.

The Mercedes CLE will also most probably be built on Mercedes' MRA platform and can be configured with either an all-wheel or rear-wheel drive.

Mercedes has announced that the forthcoming replacement for the Citan compact van and MPV will be offered as an electric model for the first time. The T-Class and the Citan will be established in cooperation with Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi.

In terms of a local introduction, Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia and New Zealand corporate communications manager Blake Vincent said the brand was now "assessing the suitability" of the Citan and T-Class "but no decision to launch in Australia has been made" as yet.
