Ontario reports 134 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday”

"While a slight uptick over the past two days, 28 of 34 [public health units] are reporting five or fewer cases, with 16 of them reporting no new cases", Health Minister Christine Elliott said on Twitter.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Waterloo Region remains at 1,385, including 1,231 resolved cases and 119 deaths.

Before the province recorded 89 new patients on Thursday and 76 on Wednesday, Ontario had not seen a daily case count of fewer than 100 since the end of March. There are two confirmed cases among children there, in addition to one staff member.

The province is also recording three new deaths related to the virus, bringing the overall total to 2,775.

There are now 78 patients infected with the disease in Ontario hospitals.

Fifty of the new cases were reported in Ottawa and Windsor-Essex, with 26 in the former. CTV Ottawa will have more information as soon as it becomes available.

The numbers follow as the Toronto and Peel regions began their entry into Stage 3 of the economic reopening on Friday morning at 12:01 am.

Friday's total was the highest since 137 new cases were reported on Sunday.

The province completed 30,033 tests in the previous 24 hour period - the first time in two weeks the number of tests processed has exceeded 30,000.

There are now 29,215 tests under investigation in the province.
