England vs Pakistan: Stuart Broad's Priceless Tweet After Father Fines Him

England vs Pakistan: Stuart Broad's Priceless Tweet After Father Fines Him”

After England's "Barmy Army" supporters group tweeted the news of his sanction on Tuesday, Broad said of his father: "He's off the Christmas card & present list".

Broad was fined 15 per cent of his match fee - equivalent to around £2,000 (US$2,617) for a level one breach and also given one demerit point for using inappropriate language when dismissing Yasir Shah, following a flurry of runs in Pakistan's second innings at Old Trafford on Saturday, hours before England completed a three-wicket win.

The demerit point added to his disciplinary record takes Broad's tally to three since it's his third offence in a 24-month period.

Before England hosted West Indies in the first test of the rejigged home summer, Broad had told the Mail on Sunday he remained wary of the fact that his father would be the match referee owing to the travel restrictions in place due to Covid-19.

He was alleged to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC code of conduct relating to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an worldwide match".

Broad's previous offenses occurred against South Africa on January 27 of this year, and in a clash with India on August 18, 2018.

Another demerit point picked up in the second test, which begins in Southampton on Thursday, would trigger a one-test suspension.

Broad admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by his dad Chris Broad, of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. No formal hearing was conducted.

On-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough and fourth official Steve O'Shaughnessy levelled the charge which Broad has not disputed.
