Russian Federation to start COVID-19 vaccine output within 2 weeks

Russian Federation to start COVID-19 vaccine output within 2 weeks”

Spain has added an average of nearly 5,000 new cases per day over the past week - more than France, Britain, Germany and Italy combined.

On Tuesday, Vladimir Putin said that Russian Federation had registered the world's first vaccine for COVID-19, and that the vaccine called "Sputnik-V" has been approved by the country's health regulators.

He added that the vaccine would be available soon. He also said one of his daughters been given the vaccine, the Times said.

Meanwhile, Israel is interested in holding talks with Russian Federation to discuss purchasing the vaccine, its Health Minister Yuli Edelstein has revealed.

The agency said it had not yet received a request to authorise the Russian vaccine, and that it could not comment on its safety or effectiveness before receiving data from the laboratory responsible for development.

Indonesia said Tuesday it would launch a Phase 3 human trial of a vaccine candidate from China's Sinovac Biotech.

What has the reaction been?

Russian Federation will offer the vaccine to other countries when it has sufficient amounts, the minister said, adding that foreign nations' doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccine are unfounded.

On Wednesday, Health Minister, Mikhail Murashko reacted to allegations that "Sputnik V" was unsafe.

"It can be risky to start vaccinating millions. of people too early because it could pretty much kill the acceptance of vaccination if it goes wrong", Jens Spahn told local media.

Castex added that unless the French public acted individually and collectively, "we expose ourselves to a high risk of epidemic resumption that will be hard to control".

"Having a vaccine and proving that a vaccine is safe and effective are two different things", he told ABC's (DIS) Deborah Roberts.

In Berlin, a spokesman for the German health ministry told newspaper group RND that "there is no known data on the quality, efficacy and safety of the Russian vaccine", adding that "patient safety is of the highest priority".

Elsewhere in Europe, Isabelle Imbert, a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research in Marseille, said promising a cure too early could be "very dangerous".

Usually when a vaccine is presented to Australia, it comes with safety assessments and is pre-approved by the two big regulatory bodies worldwide - the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and Europe's European Medicines Agency.

World Health Organization spokesperson Christian Lindmeier also said that vaccines would have to clear all stages of testing before they can be registered.

The Philippines in 2016 was the first nation to use dengue vaccine Dengvaxia in a mass programme, but a botched rollout led to claims several dozen children had died after being vaccinated.

But some countries have reacted more positively to Moscow's announcement.

It is based on a previously created platform, already used for making a number of other vaccines.

"I believe the vaccine that you have produced is really good for humanity", he said. "I will be the first one to be experimented on". "If we are convinced that it is a genuine product then we will try to enter into negotiations".

"If we have to buy the vaccine, we have the budget". Most scientists say it takes at least a year to develop a safe vaccine.

Global standards call for a Phase three trial, involving tens of thousands of people over several months.

Experts consider these trials an essential part of the testing process.

The Russian vaccine was rushed through monkey and early human trials and was most likely successful.
