Arsenal new signing paves way for Elneny's departure”

Dani Ceballos has returned to Arsenal for a second season on loan in London from Real Madrid having convinced Mikel Arteta to bring him back to the club.

According to Marca the deal does not have an option to buy Ceballos permanently and Arsenal will pay his full wages.

Arteta is delighted to have the 24-year-old back on board describing him as "integral" to the Gunners late season run of form which saw them lift the FA Cup.

Arsenal's technical director Edu said: 'We're thrilled to have Dani back with us for the new season. "I love Dani's passion and commitment and he's a highly skilful player".

Ceballos had looked set to join Real Betis but he has been persuaded to return to north London.

Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari have also made their loan moves permanent so Arteta is quietly reshaping his squad this summer.

Saliba, meanwhile, was recruited past year from Saint-Etienne, though he spent the 2019-20 season on loan with his former parent club, who went on to reach the French Cup final.

And the Brazilian had very kind words for his fellow defender, telling the Gunners website: "I know [Saliba] is a talented young player and if he is joining Arsenal it is because of his quality".

It's not the big-money midfield addition many Arsenal fans are waiting for - a move for Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey remains in limbo for now - but re-signing Ceballos on another season-long loan deal still represents an important piece of business for Mikel Arteta.

Ceballos formed an impressive partnership alongside Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park and played a key role in helping Arsenal win their 14th FA Cup with excellent performances against Sheffield United, Man City and Chelsea.
