Australia recommits to opening up economy by December, says PM Morrison”

Breaches of hotel quarantine led to a second wave of infections in and around Australia's second-largest city of Melbourne, but the border closures have contributed to a level of infections that is relatively low by worldwide standards.

Declaring the federal cabinet will no more be conducted on a consensus strategy will enable the Prime Minister to openly affirm which nations have consented to different measures such as a definition of federal hotspots and efficiently'name and shame' those countries that will not budge.

"In the absence of a vaccine, we may have to live this way for years", Mr Morrison told reporters.

News.com.au has confirmed the Prime Minister opened up today's meeting by telling state premiers that it will no longer be run on a consensus approach.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison made the announcement following a national cabinet meeting on Friday, flagging Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Canberra and Tasmania could all potentially be taking in more Australians returning home.

More Australians stranded overseas could soon be allowed to return home after state and territory leaders agreed the cap on global arrivals should be lifted.

Every state, except Western Australia, signed up to the ambitious new goal.

Since July, only 4,000 people have been allowed to return to Australia each week after national cabinet set the cap in a bid to ease demands on the hotel quarantine system.

Premiers and chief ministers will look to ease the burden on NSW, which is doing most of the heavy lifting. He suggested that it may be a situation where New Zealanders would be able to travel to parts of Australia, but Australians were unable to travel to back cross the Tasman. Australia has reported 26,136 cases and 737 deaths in a population of about 25 million.
