Murray: "Designing the racing car's aerodynamics has been extremely rewarding".

Gordon Murray Automotive unveiled the T.50 last month and all 100 units were spoken for within 48 hours.

The GMA T.50s, as it's known for now, will be lighter, more powerful, and arguably more impressive than the road-going T.50.

The fan itself, which operates in six different modes in the street vehicle, has just one job on the T.50s, and so it operates in High Downforce mode at all times.

Each auto is priced at £3.1 million before taxes ($4.1 million), and for that each owner will get the vehicle, the set-up, and training and racing and support. This means the underbody diffuser ducts will be fully open and the car's innovative fan will be permanently spinning at 7,000 rpm. That was two years ago, and when it "became obvious they didn't know what they were doing" (Murray's view on the shambolic search for a new set of rules to keep all stakeholders happy) the "s" morphed, for now at least, into the ultimate trackday vehicle.

The T.50s will be unveiled later this year and the company hinted the model will wear a "historically-significant official name". A stripped out interior is one of the main contributors to this lightweighting.

On Thursday, Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) announced the race vehicle version of the T.50 codenamed the T.50s. He added, "We've thrown everything at pushing this vehicle beyond the levels of anything that's been done before - it's a celebration of British engineering and our team's extensive motorsport experience".

Set to boast lower weight and more power (as if these things were needed) than the T.50, the T.50s will be even faster than its street-oriented sibling. According to Murray himself, this was only possible in a track auto, which doesn't have to contend with noise or emission regulations. A clever ram-induction system brings the output up to 730 ps if need be.

To cope with the added power, the engine will be connected an "entirely new" six-speed gearbox which features drive ratios that are optimized for speed.

"With an unwavering focus on performance, and free from road-going legislation and maintenance considerations, the T50s will achieve astonishing performance on track, demonstrating the full extent of the car's capabilities", Murray said. These, along with the carpets, glove box and even one of the passenger seats, have been turfed out. Road-going displays have also been removed, with performance-focused information moved to an F1-style rectangular steering wheel.

Performance focusThe carbon monocoque from the T.50 is retained as the foundation for the race auto, but much of the rest of the T.50s sees significant changes, including the body panels and every element of the chassis - chiefly to minimise weight. Right way up, it'll stick like chewing gum in the ponytail of your third-grade crush, and in addition to savage cornering forces you can expect somewhere between 2 g and 3 g of deceleration when you apply six pistons' worth of Brembo to each of the carbon ceramic front brakes.

At almost $5.7 million, the GMA T.50s is more than 30 per cent more expensive than the road version.

"The aerodynamics are so effective that the T.50s would be capable of driving upside down, and could do so at as little as 175mph".

Murray: "I'd like to organise a series of racing events as part of our Trackspeed package to ensure the T.50s is driven regularly by owners. I'd like each of the 25 cars to be completely unique from set-up to paint finish".

As such, Murray and his team have been liaising with the SRO "regarding the potential for a GT1 sports club and race series for current supercars." Yes.

Production of the T.50s should begin in 2023 and it will be limited.
