Ian Mitchell Dies: Bay City Rollers Bassist On ‘Dedication’ Album Was 62”

Adored by loving teen fans, Bay City Rollers were the first band to be dubbed "the biggest group since the Beatles".

The music star went on to form the band Rosetta Stone, and was later involved in reunions with the Bay City Rollers.

USA singer Kyle Vincent, who performed with Mitchell in the 2000s, said he had "some great memories" from their time together.

No cause of death was given.

Members said they are "deeply saddened" by the death and wrote "Rest In Peace, Ian", on their Instagram page.

But that was the best for the group, and immediately after just seven months as a member, Mitchell remaining in 1977.

Mitchell replaced bassist Alan Longmuir in 1976, aged 17, at a time when the strain of major fame was taking its toll on the band.

He said he had "many fond memories" of performing with Mitchell, adding that he would be "sorely missed".
