US warns NKorea still pressing ballistic missile development”

"We are poised to disrupt North Korea's attempts to procure technologies for these programmes and promote accountability for those entities and individuals assisting its ballistic missile programmes".

"They can't just sit back and threaten and launch (missiles) and all things they have been doing", he told a press conference when asked about the nature of an industry advisory against dealing with North Korea.

The United States formally warned on Tuesday against the ballistic activities of North Korea, which continue and continue to represent a "significant threat", despite the satisfaction of the administration of Donald Trump two months away from the U.S. presidential election.

In another statement, the US State Department said North Korea's efforts to expand its ballistic missile capabilities pose a significant threat to regional and global stability.

The advisory notes that individuals and entities producing or trading in these products, or providing related financial or other services must be "vigilant regarding any involvement in the transfer of sensitive technology to North Korean entities" and are "encouraged to ensure they understand fully all sanctions obligations and risks that pertain to their activities". It listed specific goods that North Korea likely imports for its program, including multi-axle vehicles used as mobile ballistic missile launchers.

She recalls that after its first intercontinental missile tests in 2017, Pyongyang "has continued over the past year to fire infringing ballistic missiles of a series of UN Security Council resolutions ". North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in December 2019 warned that Pyongyang no longer felt bound by its self-imposed moratorium on testing nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles, and indicated that it could test a new strategic weapon in the near future. When North Korea launched its two ICBMs in July 2017, and later in November 19 of that year, the missiles were transported on TELs to test sites and launched from separate launch pads.

Still, the first joint advisory by the three US departments comes ahead of the USA presidential election in November.

North Korea utilizes an "extensive overseas network of procurement agents", such as officials who operate from North Korean diplomatic missions and trade offices, the advisory said, and also collaborates with Chinese and Russian companies.

The U.S. advisory contains no fresh sanctions against North Korea, but is considered unusual as it came about two months ahead of the U.S. presidential election.
