Bloomsburg University nearing 250 cases of COVID-19”

Barron reiterated the importance of social distancing, particularly in advance of the Labor Day holiday weekend, and discouraged "social gatherings, parties or barbecues" both on and off campus for students.

Temple also intends to clarify whether a case is associated with on-campus housing to clear up confusion surrounding its current categories, which consider a case as "on campus" if the student or employee was inside a university facility at the time they were infectious and "off campus" if they live adjacent to campus but were not in a facility while infectious, Powell said. There is now ample space remaining in the areas designated for isolation and quarantine. Those 32 cases are factored into this week's positive number of 142.

"The on-demand group includes test results from students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms as well as asymptomatic individuals who are concerned about a possible exposure", said Dr. Robin Oliver-Veronesi, senior director of University Health Services (UHS). Penn State said 9,948 tests in total have been performed since August 7.

Of those cases, five of the students are in isolation in a residence hall and 24 are isolated off campus.

The university said that it has changed the names of its testing programs to "more clearly reflect the populations being tested". "Random screening" will now indicate the number of asymptomatic surveillance tests being done.

Penn State said on-demand testing results are sent directly to the Pennsylvania Department of Health from the University Health Services. Random screening tests are sent to the department through a testing vendor. Temple's dashboard will continue to display the number of active cases alongside the additional data, Powell said.

Penn State reported 142 more University Park students tested positive for the coronavirus this week, according to the latest update to its COVID-19 Dashboard Friday. The county saw 47 new cases Wednesday, 40 on Thursday and 37 on Friday. "Please wear your mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance. Let's remember that we are living in a pandemic and need to act accordingly", Centre County Commissioner Mike Pipe said in a statement.

In the press release, epidemiologist and Penn State associate professor of biology Matt Ferrari said that "this is a very critical moment". The university is not mandating regular testing for students or faculty.
