Callum Wilson: Striker set to join Newcastle from Bournemouth in £20m deal”

The arrival of Wilson would round off a successful few days for Newcastle with another former Bournemouth player, Scotland global Ryan Fraser, set to sign on a free transfer and Norwich City's exciting young full back Jamal Lewis also understood to be heading to the North East.

Steve Bruce needed to improve his attacking options and Callum Wilson should prove to be a quality addition to his attack.

The 28-year-old England global is a prime target for Dean Smith but Villa's initial offer has fallen short of the Cherries valuation.

Scotland winger Fraser is close to completing a free transfer to St James' Park.

Wilson was Bournemouth's leading scorer last season with eight goals in 35 appearances but it was an overall lack of goals - just 40 in total - which contributed to their drop into the Sky Bet Championship.

It will be interesting to see whether Aston Villa turn their attention towards Ollie Watkins now. The 24-year-old is available for £25m after scoring 26 goals last season, as the Bees lost out on promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final against Fulham.

The striker is set to be the latest high-profile departure from Bournemouth following their relegation from the Premier League in July, with Nathan Ake moving to Manchester City in a £41m deal and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale signed by Sheffield United for £18.5m.
