Facebook Messenger now limits forwarding messages to only five people at once”

It's the same for text, photos, and videos as well.

WhatsApp in April slashed its message forwarding limit from five to one as it sought to fight coronavirus misinformation.

Why is This New Feature So Important?

Facebook has taken this new step to stop providing misinformation on its platform.

To curb the spread of fake news, hate, and harmful content, social media giant Facebook has introduced restricted forwarding on Messenger. Facebook says that will slow the spread of viral misinformation and harmful content.

The forward limit feature had come just before the United States and New Zealand elections to be held in the coming months.

Speaking of elections, Facebook has also announced that it won't accept new political ads in the week preceding the U.S. elections. A message label named "Frequently Forwarded" was added in Messenger a year ago and it decreased the limit of frequently forwarded messages to only one person or group. Meanwhile, this feature is now available to certain countries and will be available to users globally starting September 24.

Certain features like safety notifications, two-factor authentication, and easier ways to block and report unwanted messages have been introduced by the Messenger recently.

Now that same endeavour has belatedly come to Messenger - also owned by Facebook - presumably, other work had to be carried out in the meantime to enable the feature.
